Bournemouth - people

It is very easy to characterise the town’s population as old. And indeed much of it is however the sleepy town is being slowly invigorated by the students at Bournemouth University and also a small migrant community which have made the town their home.

Many famous people are associated with the town. These include the Lord of the Ring’s author J. R. R. Tolkien, who spent 30 years taking holidays in Bournemouth, staying in the same room in his favoured hotel where he did much of his writing and Mary Shelley is buried in St. Peter's Church.
